Why Have an Engineer on Commissioners Court?
Ethics, Integrity, and Accountability
People in engineering positions are consistently rated as some of the most honest and ethical people. Having someone serving as a County Commissioner who is an engineer will provide a higher level of trust in the eyes of the public, than say, Lawyers, who consistently rate at the lowest end of ethical perception.
Many of the capital expenditures at Nueces County directly relate to capital projects associated with building and infrastructure improvements. Having an engineer with experience in these areas provides an internal sanity check on Commissioners Court to ensure projects have been scoped correctly - which minimizes the need for unforeseen future expenses.
